Today I argued with designers about how long it takes to create a normal logo. The opinions were different. But for the most part - you need at least two days, and better, of course, twenty-two days. Is two days a lot or a little?
If we translate time into banknotes, it becomes clear a lot or a little. Let's take a conditional salary of 1000 euros for a conditional designer. But besides the salary, there are taxes. Taxes are different taxes, but in our country they together account for about 55% of the salary received. In total, the employer must spend about 1600 euros on a designer in the state. If we shift the total amount over 5 working days, we get 68 euros per day, or about 8.3 euros per hour. Let's multiply. 2 days of hard thinking about the logo and we get about 160 euros. This money needs to be paid to the designer for his two-day work. Profit is not even talked about. I repeat, 160 euros is the price of one logo, expressed in two days of time spent. Of course, a freelancer can afford to tinker with the logo of Day 3 and get their 120-170 euros for it. A freelancer can afford to earn 800 euros in one month and 1200 in another. A company with such an arbitrary approach to payment invariably has difficulties. But 160 euros is only the cost of a designer's work in the most rough and conditional form. Add to this price the work of a manager who does not directly generate any income, but plays an important role in communicating with the client and setting goals. Let's add the manager's salary, office expenses, and utility bills. In the end, the company needs to make a profit, not cover running costs butt to end. If we continue this logic, then you understand that you cannot take less than 300 euros for the development of a logo. And it is better to make it not in 2 days, but in 4 hours. What do design studios offer? As a rule, the average price for a logo starts from 3000 and reaches 10,000 rubles. In this case, we are talking, as a rule, about a package of logos to choose from. Let's forget about the "2 days minimum", in which I was convinced today. Reduce 2 days to 1. We receive a logo per day. But what is there, let 2 logos be bad, from those that are added to the collection for the quantity, whatever they choose. These were done in half a day. And that 4 days for 5 options. We multiply 8.3 euros per hour by 8 hours by 4 days. We get 265 euros - the cost of the work. Slightly over 10,000 rubles. On the logo market, this is the most expensive package, which, as a rule, includes 10 or more edits, as well as a lot of all sorts of goodies. Edits. Well, you understand what edits are. This is a few more days of work, and perhaps 2-5 days pauses between the customer's responses, in which other work needs to be distributed. Let's add another 60 euros for edits. We get 325 euros. And that would just pay the designer salary. No more. How do these guys manage to stay afloat? There are actually not many exits. 1) The designer will not receive 1000 euros. Let him live on 800, or even 600. This will significantly reduce the cost of his work. Alas, but I'm afraid the cost of logos will have to be reduced for that kind of money. An experienced and good designer will not work for 600 euros, and the logos of a designer who is ready to work for 600 euros is known in rare exceptions. 2) The logo cannot be made for 2 days. 3) The logo can be produced in 2-10 days, but it should cost 1000 euros. The exorbitant price option is clear. But 1000 euros cannot be put up by an unknown designer on freelance. Unknown studios cannot expose such prices. To charge 1000 euros for a logo, you need to be Paul Random, or at least Artemy Lebedev. In general, the added value is not only for an individual approach and an infinite number of layouts, but also for the authority and fame of the manufacturer. But back to point 2). If not two days, then how many? It is normal to spend 3-4 hours on a logo. 30 minutes for drawings and concept. 2 hours for experiments. Another hour for revision and polishing. Naturally, we are talking about a professional. A designer should not “learn” or first understand any functions during the creation of a logo. Naturally, there may be gaps in the creative process. That didn’t work, and that’s all. But such gagging should be exceptional situations, and not the rule. Otherwise, we can talk about creative castration, and the so-called designer is better off doing something more typical and less creative. The logo should be as simple and understandable as possible. During the course of the dispute, I happened to hear the term - template logo. They say a template logo is yes, in an hour. But not a formula one, this is strictly a month of experiments. Well, and apparently 200 euros monthly salary. Template is something generally strange. Is the Facebook logo a template? And Samsung? Inscription in an oval. Is the Microsoft logo a template? Or Google? In my opinion, these are wonderful and simple logos that every second inhabitant of the planet visually remembers. A logo is not an oil painting. This is an extremely simplified symbol. The logo is based on a creative idea. Idea is the foundation and foundation of a good logo(Best Modern Logo Design Services in Brighton, UK). Implementation of an idea takes a few hours, and sometimes minutes. Is two hours a lot or a little? As a rule, the working time depends on the experience. If the total of logos made in a lifetime is something like 5, then it is not surprising if creative work takes a day or more. With the acquisition of experience, time is reduced, the understanding of symbols passes into a new quality. You no longer need to pull creativity and creativity out of yourself with tough efforts. Looking at good logos on a regular basis does a lot. And the constant creation of these gives even more. If the creative process could not be calculated, there would be no graphic studios in the world. All work would be done for an arbitrary amount of time. Either an hour, or 2 weeks. How it went. This is creativity! There is nothing to predict!
